The Problem with batttery Cages
In the Philippines, the confinement of hens in battery cages leads to compromised animal welfare and ethical dilemmas
In industrial farming, layer hens are often confined in battery cages—small enclosures housing 5 to 10 birds, each with personal space smaller than an A4 sheet of paper. Over 80% of egg-laying hens in the Philippines are confined in battery cages.
These wire cages restrict natural behaviors like foraging, nesting, perching, and dust bathing, leading to high stress levels, frustration, and aggression among hens. Such conditions can result in feather loss and other welfare concerns.

That’s why we are here
We are a team of Filipino animal advocates committed to ensuring corporations adhere to ethical standards in animal welfare within their supply chains.
Our Vision
A nation where corporate responsibility upholds the humane treatment of all farm animals.
Malayang Manok PH is dedicated to ensuring that corporations honor their public promises to improve animal welfare. Our mission is clear: to hold companies accountable for their commitments to a cage-free future. We demand transparency, measurable progress, and real action.
Our Mission
Malayang Manok PH champions a cage-free nation by pushing corporations toward transparency, accountability, and real action for farmed animal welfare.

Our Non-Negotiable Standards
When companies make cage-free pledges, they are publicly committing to a higher standard of responsibility. Breaking those promises or delaying progress is unacceptable. We actively monitor corporate actions, track their timelines, and demand clear reporting. Empty promises do not protect animals—only fulfilled commitments do. We demand:
- Clear Deadlines: Commitments must include specific and realistic timelines for going cage-free.
- Regular Reporting: Companies must release annual updates on the percentage of cage-free eggs used in their operations.
- Transparency: Pledges must be backed by publicly available policies and certifications.
